LECTURE | Jules-A. Brillant et l'électrification de la région, by Richard Saindon and Paul Larocque

In 1911, 22-year-old Jules-A. Brillant, became manager of the newly-formed Compagnie électrique d'Amqui. Eight years later, he had taken control of the company. But Brillant was thinking big. He wanted to distribute electricity not only in the Matapédia region, but throughout the Lower St. Lawrence and Gaspé. So, in 1922, he bought the Mitis River falls from the Reford family and founded the Compagnie de Pouvoir du Bas-Saint-Laurent. In their talk, Paul Larocque and Richard Saindon will tell the extraordinary story of a company that experienced many ups and downs before being nationalized by the Quebec government, and of its owner, Jules-A. Brillant, who became the richest man in Eastern Quebec.
